Longing for nostalgia led to a Macomb County lottery club winning a $1.1 million Lotto 47 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.
The lucky players matched the six Lotto 47 numbers drawn – 09-15-16-30-40-44 – in the Dec. 14, 2024 drawing to win a $1.1 million jackpot. They bought the winning ticket at Liquor Land, located at 17934 East 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe.
“I bought the ticket for my father as a birthday gift,” said the club’s representative. “I don’t buy tickets often, but when I do I always buy them at Liquor Land because I my father always bought tickets there when I was a kid.
“When my dad checked the ticket after the drawing, he had to look at it more than a few times to believe what he was seeing.”
“What a memorable birthday gift for a son to give to his father,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Topping this gift will be nearly impossible, but sharing such a wonderful memory – and a jackpot win – with your family is priceless!”
The club recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim their big prize. They chose to receive the prize as a one-time lump sum of about $763,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
With their winnings, the club plan to pay bills and invest the remainder in a business.
Each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Lotto 47 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in the nightly Double Play drawing. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at Michiganmilotteryconnect.casinowinning.net until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
