Spending alerts from his debit card tipped off a Highland Park man that he had won a $250,000 Powerball prize.
Kelvin Wilson, 62, matched four white balls and the Powerball – 01-03-07-16-66, PB: 05 – in the March 11 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $250,000. He bought his winning ticket at HP Liquor, located at 14301 Woodward Avenue in Highland Park.
“I play Powerball with my family for each drawing,” said Wilson. “We each pick a number, and this is a set of numbers we’ve played for a while.
“The day after the drawing, I was out of the house, and I started getting alerts on my phone that someone was making purchases using my business . I called home and asked my wife and daughter if it was them and they told me not to worry about it because ‘I had the money.’ That’s when they told me what we had won! I couldn’t believe my ears!”
Wilson visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to invest in his business.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at Michiganmilotteryconnect.casinowinning.net. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.
The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://milotteryconnect.casinowinning.net. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
